Our Events and Activities
Check out the calender for this year’s events, exact dates and locations.
These are held throughout the year on a variety of fishing and boating topics and with various guest speakers. Food and drink are usually provided.
Lobster Hoop Net Night
This is an event we have held in the past. This event begins with a wintertime, late afternoon departure heading to the best spots on the coast to hunt for bugs on the crawl.
Butt & Bagel Halibut Tournament
This is an annual event held to get the fishing year started. We want to get new members involved and we also want to get anglers fishing with people they have not fished with before. Skippers provide the boats and breakfast. Awards are presented at a special dinner or later in the year at a club event.
Kids Outreach Trip
This is an annual event where we charter a boat for an early summertime half day trip and take 50 or 60 kids from Orangewood or Olive Crest fishing. HRRC members serve as counselors to the kids.
Family Fishing Days
Typically a weekend event with awards for various species. The objective is to get all family members, regardless of age or skill to spend a fun day or two on the water. A separate awards dinner is held on Sunday.
Annual Ladies Tournament
This annual event is to get as many of the ladies out for a fun day on the water. Skill is not important and there are even awards for ladies who have never caught a fish before. Raffle prizes are given out over the radio during the day and the tournament culminates with a party for all anglers as well as family members.
Master Angler Billfish Tournament (MABT)
This is a major southern California annual Marlin fishing event for teams from all clubs. Teams consist of four boats with usually four anglers fishing from each boat. Fishing is on Friday and Saturday with the festive awards banquet and raffle on Sunday evening.
This is a one or two day event to target tuna, albacore, marlin, and other offshore species. Overnight anchorage together at Pyramid Cove or another location is a bonus. An awards brunch or social follows this event.
Kids In-Harbour Derby
This is an annual event for the young ones. All fishing is in Huntington Harbour and typically dinghies or small boats are used. Awards and an afternoon meal are provided at the Huntington Harbour Yacht Club for all participants and their families.
Installation and Awards Brunch
Held in January, this is a fun event for the entire family. This event starts our new calendar year. After a social hour we install our new officers and board members. The outgoing president reviews the past year and the incoming president reviews plans for the forthcoming year. We then present trophies and awards for winning members in various categories. Gag awards are presented to those members who have “earned” them.
This is a joint event in February with The Huntington Harbour Yacht Club. Members of both clubs prepare chili which is judged by a committee from both clubs during the social hour. This is followed by a dinner consisting of “surprise” chili as the main course and announcement of the winners.
Cinco de Mayo Party
This is a joint event held in May of each year and attended by members of both HR&RC & HHYC. The atmosphere is festive and those attending enjoy a social hour followed by a Mexican dinner and live entertainment.
New Member Social
This event is open to all members. Members joining during the previous year are encouraged to attend this “get acquainted” event. After a social hour, dinner, and entertainment a special effort is made to introduce the new members.
Fall Social Brunch and Casting Party
With the fishing season coming to an end, it is time to meet, socialize, and tell stories about the year. During the social hour, a casting contest is held from the club dock and after brunch, awards are presented to the winning “casters” in the men’s, ladies’, and children’s divisions.
This well attended festive event is held each December. Members are encouraged to bring children (or grandchildren) for great food, live entertainment, songs of the season, and a visit from Santa.
